CEF
Battlefield Tour
|
In October of 2007 I traveled
from Canada to England to take a battlefield tour of France and
Belgium. My friend and myself were met at our hotel by the
tour guide and we drove via the Chunnel to France to begin our tour at
Vimy Ridge. From there we spent 7 days touring France and
Belgium, winding up at the Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate where I
was privileged to lay a wreath in honour of the 21st Battalion CEF.
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable in military history for both WW1 and WW2. He took the time to explain root causes for both conflicts, as well as having in his possession many maps and photos pertaining to both wars. We traveled in a new 8 passenger van that was extremely comfortable and our needs were completely looked after, from accommodations to shopping, to visiting specific cemeteries or battlefields. Dave Craig, our tour guide, is not only knowledgeable, but very personable and was eager to tend to our needs. Please visit his website at Clevelode Battle Tours (opens a new window)

In 2013
I toured France and Belgium with Norm Christie, author and host of the
For King and Empire TV series. He conducted a very
fascinating tour and is an extremely knowledgeable guide. He
worked for many years at the Commonwealth War Graves Commission in
England, responsible for their many burial sites in Europe.
He can be contacted at http://www.cefbooks.ca/
Norm conducts tour groups of small sizes and is extremely accommodating
when it comes to deviating from the itinerary to visit places special
to tour members.
I have no financial interest in either business, but I recommend them highly if you are considering a battlefield tour and desire the personal attention that only a small group can provide.
