Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to East Sandling where he was Taken On Strength of the 8th Reserve Battalion

Sentenced to 6 days Field Punishment No. 2 for being absent from May 28 until June 1, 1918

Admitted to the Canadian Special Hospital in Witley with a diagnosis that reads Gonorrhea

Transferred to the 54th Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 54th Battalion

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CCRC (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast, France

Transferred to the 21st Battalion while still at the reinforcement camp and before he could join the 54th Battalion at the front

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Abdail joined the 21st Battalion in the support line west of Cambrai, France and was posted to “D” Company

Sentenced to 7 days Field Punishment No. 1 for being absent from October 26 until October 27, 1918 and forfeited 1 day’s pay

 

Nov 18, 1918

Admitted to the No. 14 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) with a diagnosis that reads Piles.  He was transported the same day to the No. 4 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station).  He was then transported to the No. 57 Casualty Clearing Station

Transferred to the No. 18 General Hospital in Camiers, France

 

Nov 28, 1918

Transferred to the No. 6 Convalescent Depot in Etaples, France

 

Dec 3, 1918

Transferred to the No. 5 Convalescent Depot in Cayeux, France

Discharged from hospital care and reported to the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France

Declared to be AWL (Absent Without Leave)

 

Mar 28, 1919

Arrested and taken into custody in Paris-Plage, France to await trial for his absence

Transferred to the CRL (Canadian Records List) in Havre, France

Tried by Field General Court Martial in Havre, France and charged with

Ø  Absenting himself without leave from February 14 until March 28, 1919

Testimony was given that he was absent from the above dates.  In his defence, Private Abdail stated that he was in camp the entire time, just not on parade.  He stated that he had gone to Paris Plage on the day he was arrested but did not know that he had done anything wrong.  He could not read the posted orders as he cannot read English.

He was found Guilty and sentenced to 90 days imprisonment without hard labour.  This was reduced to 90 days Field Punishment No. 2 by the General Officer Commanding.

Transferred to the “H” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada

 

Aug 1, 1919

Discharged from the CEF at the No. 2 Canadian Discharge Depot in London, England

Ø  Entitled to War Service Bade Class “A”

Ø  Proposed residence on discharge 4 Well St., Hackney, London, England

He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medals.  However, there is no indication in the file that they were sent to him

Brin Abdail died while a patient of the E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo, New York, USA
