Private Allen and the rest of the draft disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Shorncliffe where the men were absorbed into the 9th Reserve Battalion to continue training

Wounded at the Somme, Battle of Courcelette, Sugar Factory. Gassed and contused chest (was hit by shrapnel). Private Allen was sent to the 49th CCS (casualty clearing station) via the 11th A.T. (Ambulance train)

Admitted to #18 General Hospital in Dannes Camiers, France

 

Sept 23, 1916

Invalided to England via Hospital ship “Dieppe” and transferred to CCAC (Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre) in Folkestone, England for pay purposes

 

Sep 24, 1916

Admitted to the 3rd Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, England and T.O.S. to the CCAC

 

Jan 8, 1917

Discharged from hospital and transferred to the CCH (Canadian Convalescent Hospital) Woodcote Park, Epsom, England. It is stated that the wound did not penetrate the lung and that private Allen would be sent to Hastings for further P.T. (physical training)

 

Feb 22, 1917

Discharged from CCH and reported to the CCAC for 1 month convalescence
