Arrived at the No. 2 CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Calonne Ricouart, France

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Atkinson joined the 21st Battalion resting in Camblain L’Abbe, France as a reinforcement for the losses suffered at Passchendaele, Belgium

The battalion was passing through the town of Fouquescourt, France, during the night of August 15-16 and Private Atkinson was exposed to poison gas.  However, it was not severe, and he carried on without receiving hospital care

 

Aug 20, 1918

Admitted to the No. 49 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station) with a diagnosis that reads Bronchitis caused by his gas exposure

 

Aug 21, 1918

Transferred via the No. 14 AT (Ambulance Train) and admitted to the No. 2 Australian General Hospital in Boulogne, France

 

Aug 26, 1918

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship Stad Antwerpen

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the 2nd Western General Hospital in Manchester

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

Transferred to the Military Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom

Transferred to the Bank Meadow Hospital in Manchester
