Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Feb 19, 1917

After leaving the base depot, he joined the 2nd Canadian Entrenching Battalion in Hersin, France

 

Feb 26, 1917

After leaving the entrenching battalion, Private Bilow joined the 21st Battalion at the front, west of Thélus, France

 

Apr 9, 1917

During the capture of Vimy Ridge, Private Bilow received a shrapnel wound to his right arm and hand.  He was evacuated to a field ambulance for first aid before being transported to a casualty clearing station

 

Apr 10, 1917

Transferred to the No. 2 Australian General Hospital in Wimereux, France

 

Apr 12, 1917

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship Jan Breydel

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the Queen Mary’s Military Hospital in Whalley, Lancashire

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

Transferred to the Canadian Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom

 

May 13, 1917

Transferred to the Manor (County of London) War Hospital, Epsom

Transferred to the Queen’s University Military Hospital in Kingston

Medical exam notes that he can carry a small pail of water, but cannot hold a cup of tea to his mouth as his hand is very unsteady.  He cannot handle a spoon or other kitchen utensils owing to difficulty in gripping small objects.

Discharged from the CEF in Kingston, Ontario
