While still at the reinforcement camp, he was diverted and transferred to the 44th Battalion

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Carriére joined the 44th Battalion resting in billets west of Douai, France as part of a draft of 98 reinforcements

 

Dec 12, 1918

The 44th Battalion’s War Diary makes note of the gallantry awards being announced for the previous action at Valenciennes, France between October 18 and 20.  Private Carriére is noted as receiving the Military Medal for that action.  He is listed in the middle column, 4th name down.  Unfortunately, there is no mention of what he did specifically.

Admitted to the No. 13 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) with a diagnosis that reads Influenza.  He was transported the same day to the No. 48 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station)

 

Mar 15, 1919

Transferred to the No. 32 Stationary Hospital in Wimereux, France

 

Mar 23, 1919

Invalided to England

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the No. 16 Canadian General Hospital in Orpington

Transferred to the NBRD (New Brunswick Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Apr 11, 1919

Discharged from hospital care and transferred to the 13th Reserve Battalion in Ripon

Granted 10 days sick leave

Transferred to the Military District No. 2 Wing in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada
