Born in East River Point, Nova Scotia to David and Laura (nee Gates) Cook

 

Apr 13, 1918

Attested into the 1st Depot Battalion, Nova Scotia Regiment CEF in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Ø  Number 3181561

Ø  Next of kin given as Laura Cook, mother, East River Point, Nova Scotia

Ø  Previous occupation given as Farmer

Ø  Previous military experience given as 13 months in the composite Battalion

Ø  Religion given as Presbyterian

Ø  Posted to the 6th Regimental Draft

 

May 16, 1918

Embarked the SS Valacia in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

May 27, 1918

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Bramshott and placed in the Segregation Camp at Frensham Pond to ensure there were no cases of Influenza in the group. 

Transferred to the 17th Reserve Battalion

He was transferred to the 85th Battalion in September, 1918, but before he could join the battalion at the front, he was diverted to reinforce the 21st Battalion.  He joined “A” Company of the 21st Battalion in October, 1918

 

Apr 3, 1919

Transferred to the Canadian Records List and posted to the 25th Battalion in Auvelais, Belgium for the purpose of returning to Canada

 

Apr 8, 1919

Embarked the SS Prince George in Havre, France

 

On arrival in England, he was attached to “J” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada

 

May 10, 1919

Embarked the SS Olympic in Southampton

 

 

May 16, 1919

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Taken On Strength of Military District No. 6

It was most likely that he was discharged shortly after in Halifax

Selvyn Cook served again in WWII with the Veterans Home Guard of Canada with the rank of Sergeant

 

Apr 6, 1924

Selvyn Cook married Winnie Zink in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia

 

Jan 15, 1987

Selvyn David Cook died at the Shoreham Village Nursing Home in Chester, Nova Scotia and was buried in the St. George’s Anglican Church Cemetery, East River Point, Nova Scotia
