The 3rd Regimental Draft embarked the SS Melita in Halifax, Nova Scotia

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Seaford where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Aug 9, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

He joined the battalion at the front a short time later

 

Aug 26, 1918

During the battalion’s advance on the Cojeul River near Wancourt, France, Private Dickson received wounds from a high explosive shell that fractured both arms.  He was evacuated to a field ambulance for first aid before being transferred to a casualty clearing station

 

Aug 27, 1918

Transferred to the No. 53 General Hospital in Boulogne, France

 

Oct 11, 1918

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship St. Denis

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the Queen Mary’s Hospital in Whalley

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Dec 17, 1918

Transferred to the Princess Patricia Canadian Red Cross Hospital in the Cooden Camp, Bexhill

 

Jan 15, 1919

Transferred to the No. 13 Canadian General Hospital in Hastings

 

Feb 6, 1919

Transferred back to the Princess Patricia Canadian Red Cross Hospital in the Cooden Camp, Bexhill

 

Feb 14, 1919

Transferred back to the No. 13 Canadian General Hospital in Hastings

 

Mar 12, 1919

Forfeited 5 day’s pay for leaving the hospital without permission, then sneaking back into the hospital 4½ hours later

Ø  The right elbow is solid and cannot be extended nor flexed

Ø  Xray of both elbows show many tiny foreign bodies embedded in the bones

Ø  Board recommends patient be discharged from the military with a pensionable disability
