Holiday in camp.  Very quiet all day

 

January 2, 1918

On ranges marking today

 

January 3, 1918

PT & CO’s parade and ½ hour Bayonet Fighting.  Dinner 11 am.  Marking on ranges all afternoon

 

January 4, 1918

Same as yesterday

 

January 5, 1918

PT, route march all forenoon.  Off in afternoon

 

January 6, 1918

Church Parade today.  Special Day of Prayer

 

January 7, 1918

PT, CO’s parade.  Shooting live rifle grenades until dinner.  Musketry practice all afternoon

 

January 8, 1918

Parades as usual.  Route march all afternoon

 

January 9, 1918

Parades as usual.  ½ hour learning boxing in gymnasium

 

January 10, 1918

Drill as usual in forenoon.  On entrenching area in afternoon

 

January 11, 1918

Parades as usual until 3 pm.  Off then until 5.45.  Fell in and marched ½ mile & back with Gas Masks on.  Arrived back 7.30 pm

 

January 12, 1918

On parade in forenoon.  Route march on 9 until 12.  Off in afternoon

Paraded as usual until 10.30 am.  Picked as guard for Quarter Guard for tomorrow.

Mounted Guard 1.30 pm.  Placed as waiting man

Guard relieved today at 2 pm.  Dismounted Guard with the rest of the Guard

 

January 19, 1918

Route march cancelled because wet.  Drilled all forenoon instead.  Afternoon off

Went to Bde Gas Area for a course on Gas.  Parades 9 to 12 & 2 to 4.  Mostly lectures.  Very little drill

Went through Gas & completed course.  Had a written exam last thing.  Made “Very Good” on exam

 

January 25, 1918

On parade all day.  Fell in 5.45 pm for night maneuver.  Marched ½ mile and back with Gas masks on

Route march in forenoon about 3½ miles each way.  Off in afternoon

Church parade as usual

 

January 28, 1918

Went on parade as usual.  At night had night maneuvers on square.  Was gas instruction for D Coy.  Disinfected Gas masks afterwards

 

January 29, 1918

On PT.  Off rest of day to help instruct in Anti Gas work.  Paid £2 tonight

 

January 30, 1918

PT, CO’s parade.  Off rest of day instructing in Anti Gas work
