Ø  Previous occupation given as Blacksmith and Carpenter

Ø  Religion given as Methodist

Ø  Posted to the 3rd Regimental Draft

 

Feb 21, 1918

The 3rd Regimental Draft embarked the SS Melita in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

Mar 4, 1918

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Seaford where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Aug 9, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 15, 1918

After leaving the base depot, Private Fletcher joined the 21st Battalion at Fouquescourt, France and was posted to “A” Company

 

Aug 28, 1918

During the advance along the Arras – Cambrai Road south – east of Vis en Artois, France, Private Fletcher received a superficial wound to his face near his right eye and was evacuated to the No. 4 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to the No. 7 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station)

 

Aug 29, 1918

Transferred via the No. 27 AT (Ambulance Train) and admitted to the No. 26 General Hospital in Etaples, France

 

Aug 31, 1918

Discharged from hospital and proceeded to the No. 6 Convalescent Depot in Etaples

 

Sep 1, 1918

Transferred to the No. 12 Convalescent Depot in Aubengue, France

 

Oct 14, 1918

After leaving the convalescent depot, he joined the No. 5 rest camp in Ecault, France

 

Oct 17, 1918

After leaving the rest camp, he joined the Canadian Infantry Base Depot in Etaples

 

Oct 23. 1918

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast, France

 

Oct 28, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Fletcher rejoined the 21st Battalion in billets in Auberchicourt, France

 

Dec 13, 1918

The 21st Battalion led the 2nd Division across the Bonn Bridge to enter Germany as part of the Occupying Force and proceeded to Siegburg

 

 

Apr 3, 1919

Embarked the Western Australia in Havre, France

 

On arrival in England, he was attached to “P” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada

 

May 14, 1919

Embarked the SS Caronia in Liverpool

 

 

May 22, 1919

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proceeded to Kingston, Ontario by train

 

May 24, 1919

Discharged from the CEF in Kingston, Ontario

Ø  War Service Badge Class “A” issued number 279815

Ø  Proposed residence on discharge South Monaghan, Ontario

Following his discharge, the British War Medal and Victory Medals were sent to him at RR#1 South Monaghan, Ontario

George Henry Fletcher died in Bailieboro, Ontario and was buried in the Bailieboro Cemetery
