While still at the reinforcement camp, and before he could join the 19th Battalion at the front, he was diverted and transferred to the 21st Battalion

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Fonger joined the 21st Battalion Rear Details near Le Brullé, France as part of a draft of 36 reinforcements.

 

Oct 9, 1918

While approaching the Canal de L’Escaut, north of Cambrai, France, Private Fonger received a shrapnel wound to his right hand and was evacuated to the No. 9 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to the No. 1 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station)

 

Oct 11, 1918

Transferred via the No. 21 AT (Ambulance Train) and admitted to the No. 56 General Hospital in Etaples, France

 

Oct 19, 1918

Transferred to the No. 6 Convalescent Depot in Etaples

 

Nov 8, 1918

Discharged from the convalescent depot and reported to the Canadian Infantry Base Depot in Etaples

 

Nov 13, 1918

After leaving the base depot, he joined the Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp in Aubin St. Vaast, France

Attached to the Canadian Embarkation Camp in Havre, France

Frank Fonger died of a heart attack while serving a 7 day sentence in the Brantford County Jail and was buried in the Jerseyville Ontario Cemetery.  In an inquest held later, it was determined that his death was from natural causes, namely a heart attack.
