shrapnel wound to his right thigh while being relieved from the front line at
the Sensee River in France. He was
evacuated to the No. 3 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before
being transported to the nearby CCS (Casualty Clearing Station). He was transferred the same day to the No.
56 General Hospital in Etaples, France
