Wilbert Griffin wrote a letter home that was not
published in the paper until after he was wounded
|
Oct 11, 1918
|
It would seem that there is at least 1 page
missing from the service file that gives details of him being wounded in the
left shoulder. The 21st
Battalion was involved in heavy fighting on October 11 at Iwuy, France and it
is likely that Private Griffin was wounded on or near that day. He would have been evacuated to a field
ambulance for first aid then transported to a casualty clearing station. He was then most likely transferred to a
hospital near the English Channel for treatment
