Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Sep 5, 1918

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Sep 9, 1918

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast, France

 

Sep 12, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Griffin joined the 21st Battalion north-west of Buissy, France as part of a draft of 24 reinforcements

 

Oct 6, 1918

Wilbert Griffin wrote a letter home that was not published in the paper until after he was wounded

It would seem that there is at least 1 page missing from the service file that gives details of him being wounded in the left shoulder.  The 21st Battalion was involved in heavy fighting on October 11 at Iwuy, France and it is likely that Private Griffin was wounded on or near that day.  He would have been evacuated to a field ambulance for first aid then transported to a casualty clearing station.  He was then most likely transferred to a hospital near the English Channel for treatment

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the Royal Herbert Hospital in Woolwich

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

Transferred to the Horton County of London War Hospital in Epsom

 

Nov 28, 1918

Transferred to the Canadian Military Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom

 

Dec 6, 1918

Discharged from hospital and transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion in Seaford

Granted 10 days sick leave

 

Dec 27, 1918

Attached to Military District No. 3 Wing in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada
