The Battalion trained in the Orangeville, Ontario area

The Battalion moved to Camp Borden, near Barrie, Ontario to continue training

 

Aug 23, 1916

Lieutenant Kenned embarked the SS Olympic with another unit for England

 

 

Aug 30, 1916

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and was posted to the General List of Officers

 

Oct 26, 1916

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Oct 27, 1916

Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Oct 31, 1916

After leaving the base depot, Lieutenant Kennedy joined the 21st Battalion in Calonne, France

 

Apr 9, 1917

During the capture of Vimy Ridge, Lieutenant Kennedy received a shrapnel wound to his hip and a machine gun bullet wound to his chest.  He was evacuated to the No. 1 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to a casualty clearing station

 

Apr 14, 1917

Transferred to the No. 7 Stationary Hospital in Boulogne, France

 

Apr 27, 1917

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship St. Denis

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the 1st Western General Hospital in Fazackerley, Liverpool

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Apr 30, 1917

Surgery performed to remove shrapnel from his right hip

 

Jun 30, 1917

Transferred to the Queen Alexandra Military Hospital in Millbank, London

 

Jul 7, 1917

Discharged from hospital

 

Jul 10, 1917

Embarked the SS Olympic in Liverpool

 

 

Jul 21, 1917

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proceeded to Quebec City, Quebec

 

Jul 23, 1917

Medical Board held at Quebec City notes his wounds and recommends that he is not fit for service for 3 months.  His disability is rated at 20%

Taken On Strength of the 2nd Depot Battalion, 1st Central Ontario Regiment in Toronto, Ontario

Transferred to the 2nd Battalion, Canadian Garrison Regiment in Toronto, Ontario

Discharged from the CEF in Toronto, Ontario

Herbert Mervyn Kennedy died suddenly at home in Owen Sound, Ontario and was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Owen Sound
