Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, EOR (Eastern Ontario Regiment) under the MSA in Kingston, Ontario

Ø  Previous occupation given as Lumberman

Feb 21, 1918

The 3rd Regimental Draft embarked the SS Melita in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

Mar 4, 1918

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Seaford where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Aug 17, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 18, 1918

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 23, 1918

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CCRC (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast, France

 

Aug 28, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Lair joined the 21st Battalion on the south side of the Arras – Cambrai Road, south east of Vis en Artois, France and was posted to “B” Company

 

Sep 18, 1918

During the advance on Canal du Nord, along the Arras – Cambrai Road, Private Laird received shrapnel wounds to his abdomen and was evacuated to the No. 9 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to the No. 42 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station).

 

Oct 1, 1918

Transferred to the No. 12 Canadian Stationary Hospital in St. Pol, France

 

Oct 20, 1918

After being discharged from hospital, Private Lair rejoined the 21st Battalion resting east of Iwuy, France

 

Dec 13, 1918

The 21st Battalion led the 2nd Canadian Division across the Bonn Bridge to enter Germany as part of the Occupying Force and proceeded to Sieburg

 

 

Apr 3, 1919

Embarked the Western Australia in Havre, France

 

On arrival in England, he was attached to “P” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada

 

May 14, 1919

Embarked the SS Caronia in Liverpool

 

 

May 22, 1919

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proceeded to Kingston, Ontario by train

 

May 24, 1919

Discharged from the CEF in Kingston, Ontario

Ø  Proposed residence on discharge Pembroke, Ontario

Following his discharge, the British War Medal and Victory Medals were sent to him at Pembroke, Ontario
