This date is taken from the 1901 Canadian Census.  His birth date is subsequently recorded as December 15, 1896 and February 15, 1897.  I suspect the discrepancy is a result of the inability of Ferdinand Leon to read or write.

Ø      Previous occupation given as Labourer

His first name is spelled Ferdina on the papers, and he signed with an “X” instead of a signature

This was later changed by After Order #7 to read SOS 1st Depot Battalion EOR on transfer to the 2nd Depot Battalion EOR.  His service record was changed to read that his service started on November 11, 1917.

Embarked the HMT Grampian

 

 

Apr 3, 1918

Disembarked in England and proceeded to the Seaford Camp.  On arrival at Seaford, was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion

A Will was made out leaving his estate to his mother, Mrs Henrietta Leon, of Aylmer Quebec

Posted to the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 18, 1918

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) at Havre France and TOS the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 23, 1918

Arrived at the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp)

 

Aug 27, 1918

Joined the 21st Battalion in the field 

The Battalion was involved in heavy fighting in the Telegraph Hill Sector, near the Sensee River.  Pte Leon joined the rear detail which was at the town of Achicourt, with a draft of 55 Other Ranks

 

Oct 11, 1918

First reported to be Missing after Action, then later reported as Killed in Action

Beginning on this date, and on subsequent dates, the Plaque (Death Penny) and Scroll were sent to his father Charles Leon at Court St, Aylmer Quebec. 

In addition the Memorial Cross was sent to his mother, Mrs H Leon at the same address
