Disembarked in England and proceeded to Seaford where the entire draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Sep 27, 1918

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast, France

 

Oct 3, 1918

While still at the reinforcement camp, and before he could join the 21st Battalion at the front, he was transferred to the 44th Battalion

 

Oct 6, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Marcellus joined the 44th Battalion west of Douai, France

 

Oct 20, 1918

During fighting while attempting to cross the de L’Escaut Canal at Bouchain, France, Private Marcellus received a bullet wound to his chest that fractured 2 ribs.  He was evacuated to a field ambulance for first aid before being transported to the No. 1 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station).  Surgery was performed here to resect the ribs and repair damage to muscles.

Transferred to the No. 14 General Hospital in Wimereux, France

 

Oct 30, 1918

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship St. Denis

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the No. 4 General Hospital in Basingstoke

Transferred to the NBRD (Nova Scotia Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Jan 23, 1919

Transferred to the Princess Patricia Canadian Red Cross Hospital in the Cooden Camp, Bexhill

 

Feb 4, 1919

Discharged from hospital and transferred to the 13th Reserve Battalion in Ripon

Granted 10 days sick leave

 

Feb 28, 1919

Transferred to Military District No. 3 Wing in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada

Embarked the SS Minnekahda in Liverpool

George Leo Marcellus died while a patient of the Ottawa, Ontario Civic Hospital of heart failure brought on by kidney disease and was buried in the St. John's Chrysostom Cemetery, Malloch Road, Arnprior, Ontario
