Medical exam for the MSA (Military Service Act) of 1917 held at Kingston, Ontario

Interesting to note that the medical exam was done after he had been sworn into service

 

Feb 21, 1918

The 3rd Regimental Draft embarked the SS Melita in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

Mar 4, 1918

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Seaford where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Aug 9, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 15, 1918

After leaving the base depot, Private McCourt joined the 21st Battalion at the front near Fouquescourt, France and was posted to “A” Company

 

Aug 28, 1918

During fighting near the Sensee River, south-east of Vis en Artois, France, Private McCourt received a wound to his back and was evacuated to the No. 4 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to the No. 7 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station). 

 

Aug 29, 1918

Transferred via the No. 27 AT (Ambulance Train) and admitted to the No. 26 General Hospital in Etaples, France

 

Aug 31, 1918

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship Ville de Liege

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the 2nd Western General Hospital in Gloucester

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Sep 18, 1918

Transferred to the Chorlton-cum-Hardy Auxiliary Hospital in Manchester

 

Nov 8, 1918

Transferred to the Military Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom

 

Nov 18, 1918

Discharged from hospital and attached to the 1st CCD (Canadian Command Depot) for physical training and exercise

 

Dec 3, 1918

Discharged from hospital care and transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion in Seaford

 

Jan 12, 1919

Attached to Military District No. 3 in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada

 

Jan 21, 1919

Forfeited a total of 12 days pay for being AWL (Absent Without Leave) from December 29 to December 31, 1918 (1 day and 12 hours)

John McCourt entered the United States at Detroit, Michigan and found employment with the Ford Motor Company in Detroit

John James McCourt died in Douglas, Ontario and was buried in the St. Michael’s Parish Cemetery in Douglas
