Medical exam for the MSA (Military Service Act) of 1917 held at Trenton, Ontario

 

Jan 11, 1918

Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, EOR (Eastern Ontario Regiment) under the MSA in Kingston, Ontario

Ø  Next of kin given Agnes Armenia Meath, mother, Trenton, Ontario

Ø  Previous occupation given as Fireman

Ø  No previous military experience given

Ø  Religion given as Church of England

Ø  Posted to the 3rd Regimental Draft

 

Feb 21, 1918

The 3rd Regimental Draft embarked the SS Melita in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

Mar 4, 1918

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Seaford where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Jun 5, 1918

Sentenced to 14 days Field Punishment No. 2 for being drunk

 

Aug 9, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 15, 1918

After leaving the base depot, Private Meath joined the 21st Battalion in Fouquescourt, France

 

Sep 25, 1918

Private Meath was killed instantly by a machine gun bullet during a German Trench Raid on the allied front line at Canal du Nord and was buried in the Windmill British Cemetery, Monchy le Preux, France

 

Following his death, the Memorial Cross, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) and Scroll were sent to his mother, Mrs. E.D. Stewart, 108 Brownlee St., River Rouge, Michigan, USA

Note: his mother moved to the USA and remarried after the death of William’s father
