Transferred to the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

After leaving the base depot, he joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast, France

 

Oct 3, 1918

While still at the reinforcement camp, and before he could join the 21st Battalion at the front, he was transferred to the 44th Battalion

 

Oct 6, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Moffatt joined the 44th Battalion west of Douai, France

 

Oct 31, 1918

Private Moffatt received a shrapnel wound to his left hand overnight near Famars, France

 

Nov 1, 1918

Admitted to the No. 13 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to the No. 6 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station) where the middle finger of his left hand was amputated

 

Nov 6, 1918

Transferred to the No. 4 General Hospital in Camiers, France

 

Nov 7, 1918

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship Brighton

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the General Military Hospital in Colchester

Transferred to the NBRD (New Brunswick Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Nov 28, 1918

Transferred to the No. 11 Canadian General Hospital in Shorncliffe

 

Dec 6, 1918

More of his middle finger was further amputated to improve healing

 

Dec 31, 1918

Discharged from hospital care and transferred to the 13th Reserve Battalion in Witley

Granted 7 days sick leave

 

Jan 24, 1919

Transferred to Military District No. 3 Wing in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada

John Moffatt was tragically killed by a train at a level crossing near Castleford, Ontario and was buried in the Albert Street Cemetery, Arnprior, Ontario
