Disembarked in Liverpool, England and the battalion proceeded to the West Sandling Camp, near Hythe, Kent to continue training

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 29, 1916

Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

 

Jul 13, 1916

After leaving the base depot Private O’Hare joined the 21st Battalion resting in the Chippawa Camp

 

Sep 15, 1916

During the battalion’s attack on the German strongly held sugar refinery south of Courcelette, France, Private O’Hare went missing on the battlefield.  It was later declared that he been killed on this date.  His identifiable remains were not recovered and his name is honoured on the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, Vimy Ridge, France

 

 
Following the war the British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) and Scroll were sent to his father, Mr. Thomas O’Hare, Skerrymore, Castleblaney County Monaghan, Ireland

 
The Memorial Cross was sent to his mother, Mrs. Mary Ann O’Hare, at the same address
