Ø      Religion given as Methodist

Ø      Assigned to “B” Company 

He lied about his age on Attestation as he was under age 

On this date he is shown on the pay roll of the 45th Victoria Regiment at Lindsay

 

Jun 9, 1915

Proceeded to the Barriefield Camp at Kingston and joined the 59th Battalion

 

Aug 1, 1915

Appointed to the provisional rank of Corporal

 

Nov 13, 1915

Embarked the RMS Missanabie at Montreal Quebec

 

He was part of the 2nd Reinforcing Draft of the 59th Battalion.  He was reduced to his permanent rank of Pte in order to proceed with the draft.

 

Nov 23, 1915

Disembarked at Plymouth England and proceeded to the West Sandling Camp, near Hythe Kent 

On arrival at West Sandling, the entire Draft of men was absorbed into the 39th Reserve Battalion

 

Dec 24, 1915

Paraded sick and admitted to hospital with inflamed Tonsils

 

Apr 28, 1916

Declared Fit and discharged to duty

 

Jun 3, 1916

Admitted to the Military Hospital at Shorncliffe with a diagnosis of VDG (Venereal Disease Gonorrhea)

Transferred to the General Hospital at Bulford

Discharged to duty from hospital

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 7, 1916

Arrived at CBD (Canadian Base Depot) at Havre France and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

Left CBD enroute to the 2nd Entrenching Battalion

Joined the 2nd Entrenching Battalion

Joined the 21st Battalion in the Field 

The Battalion was in billets at Zouafques, south of Pas de Calais, conducting training exercises.  They had just been issued with Lee Enfield rifles to replace their faulty Ross Rifles, and were training for the upcoming offensive on the Somme

 

Sep 15, 1916          Reported to be Missing After Action

 

On October 6, 1916 the Battalion’s Part II Orders recorded Pte Patterson as “Killed In Action September 15 - 17, 1916”

 

Because his body was either never found, or if found, never identified, he is commemorated on the Vimy Ridge Memorial

 

He is also commemorated on the WW1 Memorial at Priceville Ontario, and in addition to the above, the family plot also honours him in the McNeil's Cemetery, Priceville Ontario
