He joined the Battalion as part of a draft of 105 Other Ranks while the Battalion was in billets at Gouy-Servins.  While there they carried out training exercises and sporting activities

Received multiple shrapnel wounds to his face (slight) and was admitted to No 6 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance).  Later in the same day he was transferred to No 5 CFA
