Conscripted into the 2nd Depot Battalion, EOR (Eastern Ontario Regiment) in Ottawa, Ontario under the MSA

Ø  Next of kin given as Mrs. A Perriard, mother, Apple Hill, Ontario

Ø  Previous occupation given as Farmer

Ø  No previous military experience given

Ø  Religion given as Roman Catholic

Ø  Posted to the 1st Regimental Draft

Arthur Periard could not write and in place of his signature there is an X and noted as being his mark.  This would explain the Perriard spelling of his name on the attestation papers

 

Feb 12, 1918

Embarked the SS Lapland in Halifax, Nova Scotia as part of the 1st Regimental Draft of the 2nd Depot Battalion, EOR

 

 

Feb 24, 1918

Disembarked in Glasgow, Scotland and proceeded to Seaford, England where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Jun 10, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 11, 1918

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 17, 1918

After leaving the base depot, he arrived at the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast,  France

 

Aug 7, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Periard joined the 21st Battalion west of Marcelcave, France and was posted to “D” Company.  The battalion was preparing for the attack on Marcelcave that took place the following day

 

Aug 21, 1918

Appointed to the rank of Lance Corporal

 

Aug 26, 1918

The 21st Battalion began the advance on the Minorca Trench held by the Germans, south of Achicourt, France.  During the intense fighting that took place, Lance Corporal Periard disappeared and was declared to be missing in action

 

Aug 27, 1918

Lance Corporal Periard had been separated from his company, but was able to rejoin them and declared to be at duty with the battalion

 

Dec 13, 1919

The 21st Battalion crossed the Bonn Bridge to enter Germany as part of the Occupying Force and proceeded to Seigburg

 

 

Mar 9, 1919

Proceeded to Namur, Belgium for Guard Duty

 

Apr 3, 1919

Embarked the Western Australia in Havre, France

 

On arrival in England, he was attached to “P” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada

 

May 1, 1919

Admitted to the Canadian Special Hospital in Witley with a diagnosis that reads VDG (Venereal Disease Gonorrhea)

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Jun 15, 1919

Discharged from hospital and transferred to “M” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada

 

Jul 2, 1919

Embarked the SS Olympic in Southampton


 

 

Jul 8, 1919

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proceeded to Kingston, Ontario

 

Jul 12, 1919

Discharged from the CEF in Kingston, Ontario

Ø  Rank on discharge Lance Corporal

Ø  War Service Badge Class “A” issued number 213494

Ø  Proposed residence on discharge Alexandria, Ontario

Following his discharge, the British War Medal and Victory Medals were sent to him at Alexandria, Ontario

Married by a Presbyterian Minister to Bertha Seguin in Apple Hill, Ontario

 

Nov 5, 1924

Married by a Roman Catholic Minister to Bertha Seguin in St. Raphael’s, Ontario.  The first marriage was noted as being performed by a non-Catholic Minister

Arthur Periard died in 1972 and was buried in the Notre Dame Cemetery, Cornwall, Ontario
