While in the front-line trench
near Neuville Vitasse, Private Phillips was fatally wounded while acting as a stretcher bearer and died shortly
after. He was later buried in the
Bellacourt Military Cemetery, Bellacourt, France
Following the war, the British
War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) and Scroll were sent to
his father, Mr. D. Phillips, Madoc, Ontario
There was no Memorial Cross
issued as his mother had pre-deceased him
