Married to Beatrice Eliza Churchill in the Christ Church, Nottinghill, London, England.

 

May 20, 1913

Embarked the SS Teutonic in Liverpool, England with his wife and 3 children.

 

May 27, 1913

Disembarked in Montreal, Quebec and proceeded to Brockville, Ontario.

Albert Pipe joined the 41st Regiment of the Militia in Brockville and in September of 1914 volunteered for service with the 2nd Battalion CEF.  According to the pay sheet, he was discharged prior to attesting for refusing to wear a Kilt.

Feb 23, 1915

After attending a performance at the Kingston Grand Concert Hall, Private Pipe fell down the stairs while leaving the hall and fractured his ankle.  He was admitted to the Kingston General Hospital where surgery was performed to set the ankle and his leg was put into a cast.  During the surgery, parts of 2 bones were removed, resulting in his right leg being 2 inches shorter than his left leg.

Discharged from the Kingston hospital and admitted to the St. Vincent Hospital in Brockville, Ontario.

 

Jun 3, 1915

SOS (Struck Off Strength) the 21st Battalion and discharged from the CEF as medically unfit.

Attested into the CASC (Canadian Army Service Corps) in Kingston, Ontario.

Disembarked the in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Shorncliffe.  On arrival in Shorncliffe, he was posted to the CASC Training Depot.

 

Dec 12, 1916

AWL (Absent Without Leave) from midnight December 12 until 10.30 pm December 13.

 

Dec 25, 1916

Found to be AWL.

 

Dec 26, 1916

Reported for duty and was sentenced to 7 days Field Punishment No. 2 and forfeiture of 2 day’s pay.

Attached to the CCAC (Canadian Casualty Assembly Centre) pending discharge from the CEF.

Embarked the SS Scotian in Liverpool, England.

Disembarked in Saint John, New Brunswick and proceeded to Quebec City, Quebec and shown on the payroll of the Discharge Depot there.

Discharged from the CASC at Quebec City as being no longer physically fit for war service due to his deformed leg.

His medical exam makes note of an old dislocation and possible fracture of the right ankle.  His medical category is listed as C3, which is for non-combat service and sedentary work such as clerk etc., and he is declared to be unfit for service.

Admitted to the Kingston Isolation Hospital with a sprained knee and fractured ankle.

Transferred to the Queen’s University Military Hospital, Kingston.

Discharged from hospital.
