Conscripted into the 1st Depot Battalion, EOR (Eastern Ontario Regiment) under the MSA in Kingston, Ontario

Feb 21, 1918

The 3rd Regimental Draft embarked the SS Melita in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

Mar 4, 1918

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Seaford where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Aug 9, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and Taken On Strength of the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 15, 1918

After leaving the base depot, Private Reader joined the 21st Battalion near Fouquescourt, France and was posted to “A” Company

 

Aug 27, 1918

While the battalion was advancing towards the Sensee River south-east of Vis-en-Artois, France, Private Reader received shrapnel wounds to his right hand and left leg.  He was evacuated to the No. 8 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to the nearby casualty clearing station

 

Aug 29, 1918

Transferred to the No. 56 General Hospital in Etaples, France

 

Sep 4, 1918

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship Ville de Liege

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the Fort Pitt Military Hospital in Chatham

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Sep 6, 1918

Transferred to the No. 11 Canadian General Hospital in Shorncliffe

 

Sep 28, 1918

Surgery performed to remove shrapnel from his hand and leg

 

Nov 20, 1918

Discharged from hospital and attached to the 1st CCD (Canadian Command Depot) in Witley for therapy and exercise

 

Dec 10, 1918

Discharged from hospital care and transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion in Seaford

 

Jan 6, 1919

Attached to Military District No. 2 Wing in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada

 

Jan 18, 1919

Embarked the SS Aquitania in Liverpool

 

 

Jan 25, 1919

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proceeded to Toronto, Ontario and Taken On Strength of Military District No. 2 Casualty Company in Exhibition Park
