During severe fighting that
began the previous day near Avesnes-le-Sec, France, Private Reynolds received
shrapnel wounds to his right thigh and abdomen. He was first treated in the battalion’s aid
station before being evacuated to the No. 9 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance)
for first aid. He was transferred the
same day to the No. 22 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station) for further treatment
where he was placed on the dangerously ill list.

Private William Reynolds died
at the No. 22 CCS of shrapnel wounds to his legs and a punctured
bladder. He was buried in the Bucquoy
Road British Cemetery, Ficheux, France
Following the war, the British
War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny), Scroll and Memorial
Cross were sent to his mother, Mrs. John Reynolds, Old Chelsea, Quebec
