The 21st Battalion trained in the Kingston, Ontario area through the winter of 1914-15.

 

Mar 11, 1915

Proceeded to Quebec City, Quebec to attend the Armourer’s Course at the Ross Rifle Factory.  He completed the course and received the Armourer’s Certificate

 

May 6, 1915

Embarked the RMS Metagama in Montreal, Quebec

 

 

May 15, 1915

Disembarked in Devonport, England and the battalion proceeded to the West Sandling Camp, near Hythe, Kent to continue training

 

Jun 2, 1915

Admitted to the Moore Barracks Hospital in Shorncliffe with a diagnosis that reads Rheumatism.  This was later changed to read Myalgia

On admission, he complained of pain in legs, ankles and arms.  He is unable to march, and when working, his pain increases and joints swelled.  A heart murmur was detected and VDH (Valvular Disease of the Heart) was added to the diagnosis

Ø  Patient suffers from heart disease with a systolic murmur

Ø  Claims he suffered from Scarlet Fever as a child

Ø  Board recommends he be discharged from military service

Struck Off Strength of the 21st Battalion pending return to Canada for discharge

Embarked the RMS Metagama in Liverpool

Following the end of the war, the British War Medal was sent to him at 52 Wright Ave., Toronto, Ontario

Edward Roberts died while a patient of the Christie St. Hospital in Toronto, Ontario of Valvular Disease of the Heart and was buried in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto
