The Transport Section, along with horses and wagons, proceeded to England as an advance party to arrange for the arrival of the full battalion.

The battalion arrived in Devonport, England May 15, 1915 and reunited with the Transport Section in the West Sandling Camp, near Hythe, Kent where the battalion continued training

Stephen’s wife Elizabeth followed the battalion to England a short time later

 

Sep 12, 1915

The Transport Section, along with the Machine Gun Section and part of the Signal Section embarked for France as an advance party for the battalion. 

 

Sep 15, 1915

The main body of the 21st Battalion disembarked in Boulogne, France and joined up with the advance party and proceeded to St. Omer

 

Oct 15, 1915

Sentenced to 5 days Field Punishment No. 2 for missing both the morning and afternoon parades.  It should be noted that the battalion was parading in La Clytte, Belgium in preparation to move into the front line trench

 

May 15, 1916

Granted 9 days leave

 

May 23, 1916

Rejoined the battalion resting in the “B” Camp near La Clytte, Belgium

 

Mar 12, 1917

Attached to the 4th Canadian Infantry Brigade for duty

 

Jul 21, 1917

Granted 10 days leave to Paris

 

Aug 1, 1917

Rejoined the 4th Brigade from leave

 

Oct 31, 1918

Granted 14 days leave

 

Dec 13, 1918

The 4th Brigade crossed the Bonn Bridge to enter Germany as part of the Occupying Force and proceeded to Seigburg

Embarked the Western Australia in Havre

 

On arrival in England, he was posted to “P” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada
