Ø  Previous occupation given as Iron Moulder

Ø  No previous military experience given

Ø  Religion given as Roman Catholic

Ø  Assigned to “F” Company

o   This was later reorganized into “C” Company

 
The battalion trained in the Kingston area through the winter with headquarters in the Kingston Armouries

 

May 6, 1915

Embarked the RMS Metagama in Montreal, Quebec

 

 

May 15, 1915

Disembarked in Devonport, England and the battalion proceeded to the West Sandling Camp, near Hythe, Kent to continue training

 

Sep 14, 1915

Embarked the St. Seiriol in Folkestone

 

 
 

Sep 15, 1915

Disembarked in Boulogne, France and the battalion proceeded to St. Omer

 

Sep 26, 1915

Admitted to the field hospital in Dranoutre, Belgium with a suspected case of VDG (Venereal Disease Gonorrhea)

 

Sep 27, 1915

Discharged to duty from the field hospital after 1 day

 

Nov 23, 1915

Proceeded on course at the Bombing School

 

Nov 28, 1915

Rejoined the battalion from course and employed as a Bomber

 

Mar 16, 1916

While the battalion was resting in billets in the town of La Clytte, Belgium, Private Rogers was sent out on a work party and was shot through the heart and killed by what appeared to be a stray machine gun bullet.  One account thought it had ricocheted off a tree before it struck him.

 
He was buried the following day by his comrades in the Ridgewood Military Cemetery, near Voormezeele, Belgium

 

 
Following the war the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny), and Scroll were sent to his father, Joseph Rogers, Frank St., Brownton, Peterborough, Ontario

 
The Memorial Cross was sent to his mother, Mrs. Selina Rogers, at the same address
