While advancing on the Canal
du Nord, along the Arras – Cambrai Road, Private Rose was struck by shrapnel
from an artillery shell and killed instantly less than 3 weeks after joining
the battalion. He was buried a short
time later in the Dominion British Cemetery, Hendecourt-les-Cagnicourt, France
Following the war, the British
War Medal, Victory Medal and Memorial Cross were sent to his mother, Mrs.
Byron Rose, Napanee, Ontario
The Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny)
and Scroll were sent to his father, Byron Rose, at the same address

Rose is honoured on the War Memorial in
Napanee, Ontario
He is
also remembered with a grave marker in the family plot
in the Riverview Cemetery in Napanee
