Born in Westbrook, Ontario to Joseph and Charlotte (nee Patterson) Scott

There are conflicting years recorded for his birth.  A birth registration filled out in 1889 gives his birth year as 1888, while the 1901 Census shows his birth year as 1889.  On attesting into the CEF he gave his birth year as 1891.

Shown on the payroll of the 16th Regiment, Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment and noted as “for 39th Battalion”

 

Feb 6, 1915

Attested into the 39th Battalion CEF in Picton, Ontario

Ø  Previous military experience given as 1 Camp of Instruction

Jun 17, 1915

Embarked the SS Missanabie in Montreal, Quebec

 

 

Jul 3, 1915

Disembarked in Plymouth, England and proceeded to Shorncliffe and then on to Lydd to continue training

 

Sep 24, 1915

The 39th Battalion moved to West Sandling for further training

 

Nov 18, 1915

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Nov 19, 1915

Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France as part of a draft of 267 reinforcements from England and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

 

Dec 30, 1915

After leaving the base depot, Private Scott joined the 21st Battalion in the N & O trenches near Voormezeele, Belgium

 

Oct 5, 1916

While the battalion was in the front line trench south of Arras, Private Scott received shrapnel wounds and was evacuated first to a field ambulance for first aid before being transported to the No. 9 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station) where he died of his wounds.

 
He was buried in the nearby Contay British Cemetery, just south of the village of Contay, France

 

 
Following the war, the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) Scroll, and Memorial Cross were sent to his mother, Mrs. Charlotte Scott, Picton, Ontario
