Joined the 21st Battalion at Bully Grenay as part of the 2nd Division Reserve and was assigned to the Specialist’s Section.  The Battalion was cleaning up and re-fitting after the fighting at Courcelette

Admitted to No 1 CFA with a bullet wound to his back, and transferred the same day to the CCS
