joined the 21st Battalion in billets in La Clytte, Belgium

May 20, 1916

While the battalion was resting in the “B” Camp
near La Clytte, Private Scott was sent out on a work party and while working
near the front, received shrapnel wounds to his back. He was evacuated to the No. 6 CFA (Canadian
Field Ambulance) for first aid before being transported to a casualty
clearing station for treatment

Transferred to the No. 1 Canadian General
Hospital in Etaples, France for further treatment where he was placed on the
dangerously ill list

Jun 2, 1916
|
Private James Albert Scott died of his wounds
while in hospital and was buried in the nearby Etaples Military Cemetery
Following the war, the British War Medal, Victory
Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny), Scroll and Memorial Cross were sent to his
mother, Mrs. M. Scott, PO Box 348, Collingwood, Ontario
