Embarked the SS Scandinavian in Montreal, Quebec as part of the battalion’s 1st Draft


 

Oct 10, 1915

Disembarked in Portsmouth, England and proceeded to West Sandling where the draft was absorbed into the 39th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Nov 1, 1915

Admitted to the Frensham Hill Hospital in Farnham with bleeding tonsils.  Surgery was performed after a considerable loss of blood to remove his tonsils

 

Dec 3, 1915

Transferred to the Canadian Convalescent Hospital in Bear Wood, Wokingham with a diagnosis that reads Haemorrhaging Tonsils

 

Dec 9, 1915

Discharged to duty from hospital

 

Apr 14, 1916

Admitted to the Moore Barracks Hospital in Shorncliffe with a diagnosis that reads DAH (Disordered Activity of the Hear)

On admission he complained of having fainting spells and feeling weak.  Also noted was an abscess at the location of his previous surgery for bleeding tonsils

 

Apr 26, 1916

Transferred to the Westcliffe Eye and Ear Hospital in Folkestone with a nasal obstruction added to the diagnosis

 

Jun 10, 1916

Transferred to the Canadian Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom to undergo therapeutic exercise

 

Jun 17, 1916

Transferred to the Horton County of London War Hospital in Epsom and the diagnosis was changed to read Quinsy, an abscess near the Tonsilitis

 

Jul 10, 1916

Transferred to the Canadian Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom

 

Jul 20, 1916

Transferred to the Westcliffe Eye and Ear Hospital for examination

 

Jul 21, 1916

Discharged to duty from hospital

 

Aug 27, 1916

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Aug 28, 1916

Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

After leaving the base depot, he joined the 2nd Canadian Entrenching Battalion in Albert, France

Private Secord joined the rear details of the 21st Battalion, west of Pozieres, France and posted to the Scout Section.  The battalion was involved in heavy fighting at the sunken road just beyond the sugar factory south of Courcelette

Granted 14 days leave

 

Nov 25, 1918

Rejoined the battalion in Lambusart, Belgium from leave.  The 21st Battalion was making it’s way to Germany to maintain the peace

 

Dec 13, 1919

The 21st Battalion led the 4th Brigade across the Bonn Bridge to enter Germany as part of the Occupying Force and proceeded to Seigburg

 

 

Mar 21, 1919

Transferred to the Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot and proceeded to England on leave

 

Apr 9, 1919

Reported to the Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot in Seaford on completion of his leave

 

May 20, 1919

Transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion in Seaford

 

May 21, 1919

Transferred to Military District No. 2 Wing in Kinmel Park, Rhyl pending return to Canada

Embarked the SS Lapland in Liverpool

Disembarked in Halifax, Nova Scotia and proceeded to Toronto, Ontario
