Nov 6, 1915

Transferred to the 91st Battalion in St. Thomas and assigned to “A” Company

 

Jun 29, 1916

Embarked the SS Olympic in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

Jul 5, 1916

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to the Otterpool Camp

 

Jul 15, 1916

Transferred to the 12th Reserve Battalion at West Sandling

 

Aug 20, 1916

Transferred to the 75th Battalion

 

Aug 21, 1916

Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 75th Battalion

 

Aug 27, 1916

Admitted to the No. 7 Canadian Stationary Hospital in Havre with a diagnosis that reads Constipation

 

Aug 29, 1916

Discharged from hospital and rejoined the base depot

 

Oct 7, 1916

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Oct 8, 1916

TOS the 21st Battalion

 

Oct 9, 1916

After leaving the base depot, Private Sloan joined the 21st Battalion in billets in Fieffes, France and was assigned to “C” Company.  Note that he joined the 21st Battalion without having physically joined the 75th Battalion

 

Jun 1, 1917

Appointed to the rank of Acting Lance Corporal without pay

 

Aug 15, 1917

During severe hand to hand combat that took place capturing Hill 70, near Lens, France, Acting Lance Corporal Sloan was discovered to be missing after the day of fighting.  His body was never recovered from the battlefield and as such, his name is engraved on the Canadian National Vimy Memorial, Vimy Ridge, France, for those killed during the war in France with no known grave.

Following the war the British War Medal and Victory Medals were sent to his sister, Miss Alice L. Sloan, RR #3 Iona Station, Ontario 

The Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) and Scroll were sent to his father, W.J. Sloan, Iona, Ontario 

The Memorial Cross was sent to his mother, Mrs. Isabelle Sloan, at the same address

 

Edward Sloan is also honoured on the Shedden, Ontario War Memorial
