The battalion left London to continue training at Camp Borden, near Barrie, Ontario

Embarked the SS Lapland in Halifax, Nova Scotia

 

 

Apr 7, 1917

Disembarked in Liverpool, England and proceeded to Bramshott where the battalion was absorbed into the 25th Reserve Battalion

Transferred to the 161st Battalion in Witley

 

Aug 6, 1917

Transferred to the 156th Battalion in Witley

 

Dec 16, 1917

Awarded the Good Conduct Badge

 

Feb 28, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Mar 1, 1918

Arrived at the No. 2 CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France as part of a draft of 313 reinforcements from England and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

 

Mar 3, 1918

After leaving the base depot he joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Calonne Ricouart, France

 

Mar 15, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Small joined the 21st Battalion in billets in Gouy-Servins, France as part of a draft of 105 reinforcements

 

Apr 1, 1918

During an enemy bombardment while in the front lines near Neuville Vitasse, France, Private Small received shrapnel wounds to his left arm and he was evacuated to the No. 6 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for first aid.

 

Apr 2, 1918

Transferred to a casualty clearing station for treatment, but owing to the seriousness of the wounds, he was transferred to the No. 3 Canadian Stationary Hospital in Doullens, France the same day, where he died of his wounds and was buried in the Doullens Communal Cemetery.

 

 
Following the war, the British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny), Scroll and Memorial Cross were sent to his mother, Mrs. GH Small, Arthur, Ontario

 

Archibald Iver Small is remembered on the family grave marker in the Arthur Ontario Cemetery

 

 
He is also honoured on the Arthur, Ontario War Memorial
