The 1916 Manitoba Census shows his wife’s name as Isabella, as well as showing 2 children, son named Alex age 2, and a daughter named Mary, age 1

Embarked the RMS Olympic at Halifax Nova Scotia

 

 

Jul 6, 1916

Disembarked at Liverpool England and proceeded to the Sandling Camp, near Hythe Kent 

While in England, his wife, Isabel, moved to 50 Hill St, Dundee Scotland

 

Jul 13, 1916

The entire 101st Battalion was absorbed into the 17th Reserve Battalion at East Sandling Camp.  The 101st Battalion ceased to exist at this time.

 

Dec 8, 1916

TOS (Taken On Strength) the 32nd Reserve Battalion at East Sandling Camp

 

Jan 4, 1917

TOS the 6th Reserve Battalion and posted to the Signals Section

 

Apr 19, 1917

Will made out leaving estate to his wife Isabella R Soppet, at 50 Hill St, Dundee Scotland 

He is noted as being in the Signals Section, “H” Coy, 6th Reserve Battalion

 

Jun 5, 1917

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 6, 1917

Arrived at the No 2 CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) at Havre France and TOS the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 22, 1917

Left No 2 CIBD for the 2nd Entrenching Battalion

 

Jun 23, 1917

Arrived at the 2nd Entrenching Battalion to receive acclimatization to trench life

 

Jun 26, 1917

Joined the 21st Battalion in the field and assigned to “D” Company 

The Battalion was billeted in the Coupigny Huts, resting, training and re-equipping after a lengthy period in the front line and support trenches

 

Jan 30, 1918

Granted 14 days leave

 

Feb 15, 1918

Rejoined Battalion from leave

 

May 12, 1918    Killed in Action

The 21st Battalion was in the front lines in the Mercatel Section, south of Arras France,   Pte Soppet was killed during an enemy artillery barrage on that front line.
