Medical examination conducted under the MSA (Military Service Act) of 1917 at Ottawa, Ontario.  He was classified A2, for those who are fit, but lack training and conditioning

 

Feb 1, 1918

Drafted into the 2nd Depot Battalion, EOR (Eastern Ontario Regiment) at Ottawa under the MSA of 1917

Ø  Next of kin given as Mrs. A. Soucie, mother, Snake Creek, Quebec

Ø  Previous occupation given as Farmer

Ø  No previous military experience given

Ø  Religion given as Roman Catholic

Ø  Assigned to the depot’s 1st Regimental Draft

 

Feb 12, 1918

Embarked the SS Lapland in Halifax, Nova Scotia as part of the 1st Regimental Draft of the 2nd Depot Battalion, EOR

 

 

Feb 24, 1918

Disembarked in Glasgow, Scotland and proceeded to Seaford, England where the draft was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

 

Jun 10, 1918

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 11, 1918

Arrived at the CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 17, 1918

After leaving the base depot, Private Soucie joined the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) in Aubin St. Vaast

 

Jul 26, 1918

After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Henry Soucie joined the 21st Battalion in billets in Manin, France and was assigned to “B” Company

 

Aug 26, 1918

One month to the day after joining the 21st Battalion, Private Soucie was killed in action during the battalion’s advance on the Cojeul Rivier near Guémappe, France.  He was later buried in the Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy, France.

 

  

Following the war, the British War Medal, Victory Medal and Memorial Cross were sent to his mother, Mrs. Rose Soucie, Snake Creek, Quebec, via Mattawa, Ontario

 
The Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) and Scroll were sent to his father, Alexander Soucie, at the same address
