Citation
reads
For
exceptional daring and coolness at St Eloi on the nights of the 8th and 9th April 1916, in
leading three parties into "No Man's Land" to rescue wounded comrades under
heavy artillery and Machine Gun fire. After his Platoon Commander and Platoon Sgt
had become casualties he displayed great coolness in commanding his platoon in an exposed
position.
