Disembarked at Liverpool England and proceeded to the Seaford Camp

The Battalion was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion at Seaford 

Because the 6th Reserve Battalion had a full compliment of Coy Sergeant Majors, he was required to revert to his permanent rank of Private

Posted to the 21st Battalion 

Arrived at No 2 CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) at Etaples France and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

Arrived at the CC Rein C (Canadian Corps Reinforcement Camp) at Villers Au Bois

 

Oct 18, 1917

Joined the 21st Battalion in billets at Ourton France, west of Lens

 

Feb 9, 1918

Declared to be AWL at 6 pm

 

Feb 14, 1918

Surrendered to the Doullens Military Police at 9.30 am

 

Feb 25, 1918

Sentenced to 14 days FP No 1 (Field Punishment) and forfeits 6 day’s pay under a Royal Warrant in addition to the loss of pay during his absence

Granted 14 days leave

Rejoined the Battalion from leave

Promoted to rank of Corporal to replace Cpl Garlick 675360 who had been appointed to the rank of L/Sgt

Promoted to the rank of Sergeant to replace Sgt Wykes 455208, who had been invalided to England 

Some time on either August 11 or early on August 12, he received severe shrapnel wounds to his hip.  He was admitted to the No 9 CFA (Canadian Field Ambulance) for treatment

Died of his wounds at No 9 CFA

Awarded the Military Medal per London Gazette #31142

 

This was awarded for acts of bravery during the heavy fighting at Marcelcave on August 8, 1918.  This was the same action in which the Commanding Officer, L/Col EW Jones was killed in action.
