Transferred to the newly formed 6th Reserve Battalion in East Sandling.  Shortly after the formation of the battalion, it moved to Seaford to train reinforcements for the front

While with the battalion, he was briefly employed as a Drill Instructor at the Aldershot Command School.  He also attended courses at the Stokes Gun School, Gas School, and Scout School

Reverted to the rank of Private at his own request in order to go to the front

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Apr 22, 1917

Arrived at the CBD (Canadian Base Depot) in the Rouelles Camp, Havre, France as part of a draft of 3,000 reinforcements and Taken On Strength the 21st Battalion

 

Jun 5, 1917

After leaving the base depot, Private Sullivan joined the 21st Battalion and was posted to the Scout Section

 

Remembered after the war by his comrades

 

  

Nov 12, 1917

On the night of November 11/12, a work party of 212 men was sent out to work on the front line trench system in the mud at Passchendaele, Belgium.  While on the road waiting to move into the work area, they came under attack from enemy artillery.  Many men were instantly killed, and many others were wounded by shrapnel or overcome by poison gas.  Frank Sullivan was 1 of those overcome by the gas when his gas mask was shot off his face and he was evacuated to the No. 13 CFA (Canadian Field  Ambulance) for first aid

Transferred to the No. 11 Canadian Field Ambulance then transferred the same day to the No. 2 CCS (Casualty Clearing Station)

 

Nov 15, 1917

Transferred via the No. 9 AT (Ambulance Train) and admitted to the No. 47 General Hospital in Le Treport, France

 

Nov 28, 1917

Invalided to England aboard the Hospital Ship Carisbrooke Castle

 

On arrival in England, he was admitted to the 1st Southern General Hospital in Birmingham

Transferred to the EORD (Eastern Ontario Regimental Depot) for pay purposes while in hospital

 

Dec 10, 1917

Transferred to the Canadian Convalescent Hospital in Woodcote Park, Epsom

Discharged from hospital and transferred to the 6th Reserve Battalion in Seaford

Registered for the United States Draft at Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

He gave his employer as Goodyear Aircraft Corp Engineering Dept. in Akron, Ohio.

When WW2 ended, he enrolled in the University of Akron and studied house design.  On graduation, he opened his own business designing custom homes in Tallmadge, Ohio

He had previously divorced Violet, his first wife

 

May 5, 1979
