After leaving the reinforcement camp, Private Schwartz joined the 21st Battalion in Villers au Bois, France and was posted to the Headquarters Section to be a member of the Brass Band.  Members of the band were employed as Stretcher Bearers when in the front lines

On arrival in England, he was attached to “P” Wing in Witley pending return to Canada
