An entry in his War Service Gratuity pay record indicates that his wife deserted him and payments to her were discontinued in March, 1919

Isabella is shown living in West Hartlepool, England in 1921 with her daughter Lottie Sweet.  She died there in 1927.

James Edward Sweet died of Cirrhosis of the Liver while a patient of the Kingston General Veterans Hospital in Kingston, Ontario and was buried in the Whites Cemetery, Belleville, Ontario
