by fish tail grenades and artillery.
Private Tyrie received shrapnel wounds to his head, neck, arms and
chest. He was evacuated to the North
Midlands Field Ambulance for first aid before being transported to the No. 8
CCS (Casualty Clearing Station)

(Ambulance Train) and admitted to the No. 15 Casualty Clearing Station for
further treatment

Private William Tyrie died of
his wounds at the No. 15 Casualty Clearing Station and was buried in the
nearby Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery, Hazebrouck, France
Following the war, the 1914-15
Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny) and Scroll
were sent to his sister, Jessie Tyrie, Carleton Place, Ontario
There was no Memorial Cross
issued.
