- Returned
to trenches-fairly quiet.
- Boys
longing for a charge.
- Bombardment
on right and left is fierce.

bombardment all day.
- Four
shells over at a time.
- Boys
are calm.
- Saw
QM Sgt. Fee for the first time since I came in trenches.

- Everything
quiet.
- Received
letters.
- Nothing
unusual.

- Wet
all day.
- Saxons
bombardment all day.
- A few
casualties.
- Wrote
letters home.

- Fierce
bombardment.
- Cpe
Frankland, Pte. Hannahan, & Pte. Taylor injured.
- Rum
issued-the boys are pleased.
- Received
letters.

- Fierce
bombardment all day.
- Spent
most of the day in the dugout.
- Colour
lights sent up by the enemy but stopped by our Artillery.

morning with fog.

in trenches.

by 1st Battalion.
- Left
at 8:00AM and arrived at La Clytte at 12:00PM.
- Awful
cobble roads.

artillery all along the line.

of Calvary about.

parcel and letters from Mother and girl.

bombardment heard so far.

Divine Service and sing-song at night.

drill and general exercise.

worked all day.

with Cpl. Scott and Lieut. Stewart to trenches near Dickebusch.
- Plenty
of mud.
- Held
by P.P.C.L.I. last year.

awful-the earth trembled.
- Naval
guns used.
- Heavy
fog and wet.

of English troops about.
- Route
march through Dickebusch-village awful.

La Clytte at 7AM.
- Passed
Dickebusch at 9AM.
- Arrived
in trenches held by P.P.C.L.I. and KRR at 12 noon.
- All
quiet.

but damp.

the Reserves at 8AM and reported to HQS at 9AM.
- Proceeded
to French Instructional School and Experimental Farm.

- Experimented
on periscopic sight-fine sight.
- Plenty
of rain and mud.
- Received
letters.

October 27th |
- Trench
work very instructive.
- Saw
Jack at (Camp) Billets.

- Worked
on wire-lads not at all bad.
- People
of the house are most peculiar.
- Had
a sing-song in tents put up by us.

more letters and wrote quite a lot back.
- Worked
on rifles-good results-pleased.
- Wet
and damp-plenty of mud.
- Wire
work from 4PM to 7:30PM.

out on class.

to Battalion in Mobile Reserve.
- Lost
more men.
- Awfully
dirty bush.

bombardment; shells bursting all about and plenty of rain.
