Thursday, April 1st
  • Aired blankets and palliases (beds).
  • More rumours about going.
  • Pictures with QM Sergt. Fee.
  • Beautiful weather…

Friday,
April 2nd

  • Good Friday.
  • March around town and football in the afternoon.
  • Beat “H” Co. 3 to 1.
  • Beat Battalion at shooting.
  • Colonel Hughes sore…

Saturday,
April 3rd

  • Parade as usual.
  • Football in the afternoon-Friendly won 4 to 2.
  • Still no news.
Sunday,
April 4th
  • Church with QM Sergt. Fee in the morning.
  • Feel awfully good.
  • Still no letters.
  • Three weeks now and no news.
Monday,
April 5th
  • Kit inspection. I will soon be going and I am glad.
  • March to Portsmouth and Lake Ontario looks fine.
  • Out taking photos –they came out awfully bad.
Tuesday
April 6th 
  • Battalion drill and March past.
  • Very easy day.
  • Watched fight when Willard beat Johnson in the 26th round-very exciting.
Wednesday, April 7th
  • Up at 5:30AM and physical drill as usual from 6:00AM to 7:00AM.
  • Colonel Hughes gave hopes of leaving shortly.
  • Some boys deserting.
Thursday, April 8th
  • March past was dandy.
  • Concert in Mess Room.
  • Received two letters and was oh, so pleased.
  • Pictures in the evening and supper at 11:30PM.
Friday,
April 9th
  • Barriefield-the Sergts. beat the Officers at shooting.
  • Battalion drill-easy time.
  • Pictures and billiards in the evening.
Saturday, April 10th
  • March around town and March Past was dandy.
  • Half holiday, shooting teams of Companies. The Machine Gun Squad came in 1rst.
  • Stayed in and wrote letters.
Sunday,
April 11th
  • Paraded for church at 2:30PM and then marched around town in the afternoon after the Parade.
  • Church in the evening with Q.M. Sergt. J. Fee-fine time.
  • I feel awfully good.
Monday,
April 12th
  • Physical drill at 6:00AM.
  • Departure delayed for 5 days.
  • Getting sick of hearing about going.  The sooner we leave the better.
Tuesday,
April 13th
  • Boys of other Battalions are embarking.
  • Expecting to go at any moment.
Wednesday, April 14th

 

  • Maj. General Hughes inspected the Battalion and was pleased but said nothing about going.
Thursday, April 15th

 

  • I am heartily sick of hearing about going. Let’s get on with it.

April 16th

 

  • Received no letters…
  • Very little time now, more men arriving from the Base Co.
Saturday, April 17th
  • March around town and all bands were out.
  • Football with No. 3 Co. and we won 3 to 0.
Sunday,
April 18th

 

  • Service at the Armouries and St. Paul’s in the evening.
Monday,
April 19th
  • Received letters from my brother and friends but none from England.
  • Heard no news of going.
  • Something is wrong with the C.P.R.
Tuesday,
April 20th
  • Lovely girls in Kingston.
  • Wolfe Island in the afternoon-splendid scene.
Wednesday, April 21st
  • Trooping of Colours on the cricket field.
  • It was a good day with plenty of people present.
Thursday, April 22nd

 

  • I am seriously longing to get away but there are small hopes at present.
Friday,
April 23rd
  • Sick-had a soft time.
  • Played billiards with Sergt. Smith, later on.
Saturday, April 24th
  • Football with Base and Bugle Band- Won 5 to 0.
  • Baseball with Machine Sec. - Won 12-11.
  • Concert in the evening.
Sunday,
April 25th
  • Sick today-lost a lot of blood and feel weak.
  • Church in the evening-nice service.
Monday,
April 26th
  • Parade as usual.
  • Inspection
  • Rumours about going.
Tuesday,
April 27th
  • Parade as usual.
  • Pictures with Sergt. Jealous.
  • Billiards after inspections.
Wednesday, April 28th
  • Shooting at Barriefield.
  • Battalion March Past.
  • Paraded around town with flags flying.
Thursday, April 29th
  • Battalion drill as usual.
  • Praised by Colonel upon good drill.
  • Marched around town.
  • Took girls out to the Grand (live theatre).
Friday,
April 30th
  • Battalion drill on the cricket field.
  • At sports, No. 4 Co. leads at Football and Baseball.
  • Billiards in the evening.
