Private Wingett joined the 21st Battalion at the front a short time later

 

Aug 27, 1918

During the battalion’s advance on the Sensee River, south-east of Vis-en-Artois, France, Private Leonard Wingett was killed in action and buried in the Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery.  Note that there are 2 soldiers buried in this grave and Private Wingett’s name is listed on the bottom of the marker.

  

Following the war, the British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny), Scroll and Memorial Cross were sent to his widow, Mrs. Jennie Wingett, Lakefield, Ontario

 

Leonard Wingett is honoured on the war memorial in Peterborough, Ontario
