Disembarked in Liverpool, England and the battalion proceeded to Seaford where it was absorbed into the 6th Reserve Battalion to continue training

Transferred to the 21st Battalion

 

Nov 14, 1917

Arrived at the No. 2 CIBD (Canadian Infantry Base Depot) in Etaples, France as part of a draft of 12 reinforcements from England and TOS (Taken On Strength) the 21st Battalion

 
A short time after his arrival in France, Private Smale joined the 21st Battalion at the front

 

Jun 16, 1918

While in the front line trench near Mercatel, France, Private Albert Smale was killed in action.

 

Jun 18, 1918

Private Albert Edward Smale was buried in the Bellacourt Military Cemetery, Riviére, France with a ceremony conducted by Maj (Rev) WE Kidd MC, the battalion’s chaplain

 

 
Following the war the British War Medal, Victory Medal, Plaque (Dead Man’s Penny), Scroll and Memorial Cross were sent to his family
